Sporting Lisbon vs. Glasgow Rangers
April 10, 2008 - Sporting Lisbon will host Glasgow Rangers in a UEFA Cup football match. Lisbon will be home to many Glasgow fans, who always come out in numbers for the competition.
The game will take place at the Estádio José Alvalade, built for the 2004 European Football Championship. For Rangers fans, you can get there by taking the Metro to Campo Grande. It was designed by Tomás Taveira, and was classified by UEFA as a 5-star stadium, enabling it to host finals of major UEFA events. Estádio José Alvalade has a capacity of 52,000 and acoustically engineered, which will add to the excitement as the Rangers and Sporting fans celebrate the match.
Afterward, win or loose, there is little doubt that the Rangers fans will eventually funnel down toward Cais do Sodré, and party at one of the two Irish Pubs. O’gilians, the smallest of the two is a better choice, and there will be live music organized by the owner especially for the craziness that the Rangers bring with them.
For fans from Scotland, we hope you enjoy the weather, and enjoy your time in Lisbon. Take advantage by spending some time at the ocean in Cascais or Estoril. Visit the Castle, ride the 28 through the city, and appreciate having such a good excuse to spend some time in the South. And just one other thing…
