The wonderful thing about Lisbon, is the cultural diversity and energy that flows through her streets. With the large African and Brazilian communities that have settled here, there is a strong cultural mix which gives Lisbon its flavor. As Portugal spread its language and culture during their age of discoveries, these earlier Portuguese outposts have come back to Portugal, bringing with them their unique cultural heritages. Brazil is a great example, and Rock in Rio, the famous Brazilian music festival is a perfect example of a piece of Brazil washing up on the shores of Portugal.

Rock is Rio, which began in 1985, was a huge success for Brazil. The multi-day music festival showcased some of the most popular artists at the time, and the atmosphere was so spectacular, that it became a favorite for artists as well. By the time of Rock in Rio 3, the popularity continued to grow, and Portugal decided to bring the event to Lisbon.

Rock in Rio Lisboa first took place in Lisbon in 2004. It was a controversial event because of the name Rock in Rio. Of course, Rock in Rio was named for Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. At first promoters looked into naming the event in Lisbon, Rock in Rio Tejo, alluding to the Tagus (Tejo in Portuguese) River. They instead decided on Rock in Rio Lisboa, and the event was a huge success.

This year, Rock in Rio Lisboa is scheduled to start May 30, 2008. Rock in Rio Lisboa will run until June 6th, and many artists will be coming to Lisbon for the event.

Rock in Rio Lisboa 2008 will take place in Parque da Bela Vista. Tickets for each day run around 53 Euros, and there are three stages with different concerts once inside the event. The stages for this years Rock in Rio Lisboa are Palco Mundo, Tenda Electronica, and Sunset.

If you are a fan of any of these artists, come on out for Rock in Rio Lisboa 2008. It is a perfect excuse to come to Lisbon. Many people will be coming out for this years Rock in Rio Lisboa, and staying a few days extra in this amazing city will make for a great experience. Go to the beach during the day, or run around Barrio Alto at night. Spend some time in Lisbon, and meet other concert goers around town. Rock in Rio Lisboa is a great way for music lovers to meet up in one of Europe’s most beautiful and exciting cities.
