You are quite right when you say most tourists simply arrive in Faro airport and make for the resorts of the Algarve and I have to admit I am one of them.
On my numerous visits to Portugal I have never really given Faro a second glance, though I once stayed at the hotel monaco in Montenegro on a house hunting expedition.
It was a wonderful location for traveling around the region and the local people were very welcoming. However we never met any other tourists in the area.
Having read your blog I will make a point of visiting more of Faro than the Forum Algarve!
